May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month – My Sun Story

The sun is shining and I guess you could say I’m the whitest girl at the party.

My recent trip to Palm Springs came with a few things – warm temps, a five-star resort and some hot hot sun! As a total sun baby you can bet that the swimsuit was packed and I was on a mission to catch some serious rays to defray my Casper status. Hey, it may work for the Olsen twins… but not me.

With summer right around the corner it seemed only right to steal some pool time in the midst of the Stagecoach crazy so I headed down to achieve even a fraction of what would be somewhat of a sun-kissed glow.

Now real talk, I’ve always had a love/hate relationship with sunscreen. Destined to want to achieve a tanned and toned appearance I often opted for low-grade sprays or no sunscreen at all. Silly me.

After taking myself to my annual check-up, recent skin check revealed that I had sun damage on my nose and a few spots on my tanned chest. Now while I can’t be surprised, it did have me second-guessing my skincare routine especially as travels have me poolside.

So in honor of skin cancer awareness month (May), and knowing I was going to spend quite a bit of time outside while at Stagecoach, I needed something that was going to protect but didn’t want the smell or grease of a traditional sunscreen. When my friends at Hawaiian Tropic asked me to try out their new Silk Hydration Weightless Lotion (SPF 15 and SPF 30) I decided to give it a go.

Their newest weightless lotion is infused with shea butter and contains broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection making it feel like I wasn’t wearing anything at all. An added plus – exotic island botanical ingredients like coconut, plumeria, mango and passion flower give it a great smell while also nourishing the skin.

So as I pack both my suitcase and pool bag, I’m embracing a new take on sun-protection this summer destined to keep skin protected and nourished. What will be in your pool bag?
