FROM THE DESK: A PR Gals’ Morning Routine

You know that scene at the start of Devil Wears Prada where these girls who have been up for hours still manage to slip off their nighties/lingerie, eat their avocado toast (hold the bread), and apply their dewy glistening make-up before strutting out the door in fabulous and yet impractical walking heels? It’s not real life. At least it’s not my real life.

NYC Morning 1

I’m a walking oxymoron to all of those pre-conceptions of PR/Media gals. I’m not a morning person. Confession, I’m the queen of the snooze bar and a worshiper of dry shampoo just to avoid tacking on another 10 minutes in the shower and trip to “Lauren’s famous blow dry bar.” Aka. my bathroom. FROM THE DESK: A Holiday Sign-Off

I have to admit – between warm temps abroad and a few bday and Christmas parties in 70 degree weather in NYC has me feeling a little less “Elf-ish” this year!

out of office 2

So in the spirit of a 12 day to Christmas countdown I’ve turned on the Spotify Christmas music pinterested the sh!t out of holiday cocktail ideas and am going to let the blog do a little Christmas content caroling this week. Let’s consider this my holiday ‘From The Desk’ sign-off. (more…)

FROM THE DESK: HOLIDAY CHEER

The holiday whirlwind is here people and not to quote the Weekend, but – I love it! I already have my desk Christmas tree on order and while my fellow cube mates are slightly nervous about my “decking the halls” – I hear holiday cheer is contagious. They’ll be on board in no time.

From The Desk: 19 Signs You Need a Break

The key to today’s post was simple – come up with a constructive and obvious list that in no way made me sound exhausted, burned out and or absolutely tear my hair out crazy. It was a fine line to walk, but I think I made it.

From the Desk

I’ve been on the grind since early August. While I understand that three months of day in day out work may seem like a cakewalk to some what happened in those three months has caused me to peter out. All about that “life in your years…” right? (more…)

FROM THE DESK: @PRBlonde Humor

Happy Thursday friends. We’re one step further from Monday and one latte closer to Friday.

Throwback Thursday

Since it’s Thursday and we always seem to be in a throwback mood, I thought I would share a new pithy and humorous venture that also pays homage to one of my favorite tumblrs. For those of you PR Gals who read and follow our “From the Desk” knowledge bombs series, consider this the antidote, the ‘sh!t they should have shown,’ a true look “behind the desk,” an #IRL feed if you will. FROM THE DESK: Fall PR Goals

Ah fall! The time when budgets run lean and you find the kismet space between holiday short and long-lead pitching. “What’s that? There’s a moment to breathe in PR?!” I know – shocker, but truthfully, the PR game ebbs and flows – scratch that, rages and flows! So when you have a few moments to organize your desk, perfectly e-file your e-mail and take care of some fall housekeeping before 2016 planning sucks you back in, you take it.

From The Desk: Pitch Perfect

We’re interrupting our regularly published Instagram and Snapchat fashion week coverage to bring you a post from the desk, and I couldn’t be happier.

PR and NYFW

I never thought I would say that my desk (Lilly Pulitzer redesign still in progress) would be considered my haven but for all intents and purposes today, it’s heel and lip stain free. Flip flops and/or bare feet, mandatory. (more…)

FROM THE DESK: How to Organize For Success

Nothing makes me happier than a clean, organized and personalized work space. I loved the first days of class when you got to break in a new notebook or planner. The smell of fresh paper!

Lilly Pulitzer

But since college days are over – there’s nothing wrong with using Sept. 1 to hit a reset button and organize and spruce your space for a new month. Recently a co-worker came over to my desk and said “You’re workspace is so happy!” I replied, “obviously!” You spend 50 – 60 hours a week at that workspace, on top of all the other “emojis” you work through in a given day you may as well try to avoid “depressed” over white walls and Dell computers. From The Desk: #BloggerBlackmail

I’m constantly wearing a blogger hat. You know what – let’s call it a fascinator. Because that’s what stories like #BloggerBlackmail do – they fascinate me.

macarons and writing

As you all are well aware I work in PR specializing in connecting brands with bloggers across many consumer brands. Every day I’m playing a monkey in the middle game. Brands want coverage, bloggers want free stuff and validation. The relationship is certainly one that can prove mutually beneficial provided the expectations of what a brand or a blogger will or won’t do are set from the start. We’ve talked a little on the blog about bloggers knowing their worth and I have spent countless hours encouraging some to charge more and others to take a giant swig from the reality bottle. It even more comical being on the other side of the game acting for the brand and the blogger assumes us PR gals will lay down like a dog when they ask for astronomical payment and even funnier when they think I hold the purse strings. FROM THE DESK: HOW TO SUCK YOUR PR INTERNSHIP DRY

I blame Eva Chen for today’s post.

Say what you want about the pre-med turned fashion icon but she struck new job Instagram gold, literally. Who knew posting with an apple on public transportation would be considered chic and become an innovative beacon to new opportunities. (This is one of those, “Really, I could have thought of that,” moments. Much like Miley and her twerking. Pretty sure that was high school in a nut shell). Fine call me naive – I’m sure she has plenty of other qualifications as well (*S).

Leave Your Mark

Actually – scratch that. I blame this “How to Rock Your Career” post on my over eager doe-eyed, PR jazzed, intern hopefuls – bless their little hearts. After months of what seems like slaving away, internships are about to expire and while you’re either heading back to the good ol’ U or anxiously awaiting that $30K+ millionaire news, there’s a few things that you can do to eek out ahead of the intern pack like American Pharoah.
