Choosing a Perfume – What Fragrance will Best Identify You?
Fragrance, as we’ve been told by researchers, can connect to a part of the brain to trigger emotions or memories that evoke happy and mood-boosting thoughts. It would be best therefore, to wear a perfume with a fragrance that will trigger such emotions or memories in people with whom you interact. That way, good vibes will connect you to your work and social relationships.
Actually, fragrance designers or perfumers combine different layers of fragrances so they can create depth and wholesomeness when it connects to the personality of the perfume wearer. After all, a fragrance worn with loyalty and regularly, will become a direct reference to the identity of the wearer.
Choosing Fragrances that Work Well in Building Positive Relationships
Since our relationships with the people we meet start with first impressions, we should wear a fragrance that is immediately reflective of our lifestyle and personality. While there’s a broad range of perfumes available in the market, shoppers can have an idea of what to choose by checking out the fragrance notes using the so-called Fragrance Wheel. The latter is a tool that consumers can use as a guide in establishing the scent they believe reflects their personality.
The first step in learning how to use the Fragrance Wheel is to know the four main types of fragrances, namely: fresh, floral, woody and oriental.
Fresh Fragrances
Fresh fragrances are inclusive of citrus, green and water elements, which sends cool but vibrant and refreshing zesty smells. Common citrus fragrances are created from essences of mandarin oranges, lemon or bergamot. Water fragrances on the other hand, are reminiscent of breezes from bodies of water like rivers, springs and seas. Green fragrances are crisp uplifting smells coming from leafy herbs like basil, rosemary and lavender, which is just to mention a few.
Floral Fragrances
Floral fragrances are of course the most common but with the broadest choices of scents because this type is a huge favorite in the perfume market. Floral fragrances are naturally sweet but can vary in strength and density of the scent coming from flowers like jasmine, rose, lilies, peonies and other similar families of fragrant flowers.
Oriental Fragrances
Oriental fragrances are distinguished from regular floral scents as having a variety of warm, woody and even spicy tinges to their sweetness. That is why oriental fragrances are described by perfumers as luxurious scents, which can still be sub-categorized as soft oriental or woody oriental in addition to floral oriental. Perfumes with oriental fragrances may consist of, but not limited to cinnamon, vanilla, orange blossom, cardamon, ylang-ylang and orchid essences.
Woody Fragrances
Woody fragrances are also known as warm scents marked by some mysterious but captivating earthy scents of musk. These essences are developed from wood elements like cedar, vetiver, amber and sandalwood, just to mention a few. Woody fragrances are characterized as having dry yet sweet, terrestrial and sometimes, smoky undertones
To cite a brand of perfume as example, the italian brand Xerjoff has product lines to distinguish various perfumes offered as choices of signature scents. There are the fresh fragrances from the Xerjoff Naxos line; the woody fragrances of Xerjoff Erba Pura and the oriental woody essences of the Xerjoff Escentric Molecule 01.
